Kindle Paperwhite vs. Oasis – Let’s Breakdown These Two E-Readers

Different tablets are entering the market all of the time. There are many Android tablets, Chinese tablets, and even the best drawing tablets that you can buy.

Kindle is another tablet that has been around for years, and they are emerging with new versions all of the time. First entering the market as an e-reader, Kindle has come a long way since then. Since there are so many different Kindle e-readers, which one should you choose?

We’ll take you through the differences and similarities between the Kindle Oasis and the Kindle Paperwhite. After reading this, you’ll be an expert on both e-readers and better understand which one is best for your needs.

Size of Kindle Oasis vs. Kindle Paperwhite

The dimensions of the Amazon Kindle Oasis and Kindle Paperweight are similar in size. The Paperwhite measures 6.3” x 5.6” x 0.13” while the Oasis is 6.6” x 4.6” x 0.3”.

They are also similar in weight as the Kindle Oasis is 6.6 ounces and the Kindle Paperwhite is 6.41 ounces. This is where the similarities stop.

When it comes to the size of the screen, the Oasis wins the battle here. The Kindle Oasis has a 7” screen compared to the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite that has a screen of 6”. While that’s only an inch difference, it makes a significant difference when you are using it. Reading on an Oasis means you see significantly more words on the page with the 7” screen than the 6” screen.

Speaking of screens, the Kindle Oasis trumps the Kindle Paperwhite when it comes to screen resolution. They both feature 300 pixels per inch, but the Amazon Kindle Oasis has a screen resolution of 1,680 pixels by 1,264 pixels. The Kindle Paperwhite only has 1,448 pixels by 1,072 pixels. The more pixels provided, the more precise the screen.

Another screen feature is only the Oasis has a blue light filter. What does that mean? It means that you can read at night without having a blue light that will keep you up all night. While it’s nice to read at night, we don’t want to be reading all night because the blue light keeps us awake.

Battery Life

The playing fields are pretty even in battery life for both the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle Oasis. Both e-readers feature up to six weeks of battery life when used for 30 minutes a day. That’s some fantastic battery life as you could use the e-readers for 21 hours before you ever have to charge it. We’ll call it a tie here.

Apps

While both the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis have apps available to download, they are supported by a software system called Whispersync. Kindle uses neither Android nor iOS operations systems. Whispersync is a software system that is primarily used for reading purposes. That said, in the Paperwhite vs. Kindle Oasis review, both will have the same apps available since they use the same operating system.

More Advanced Features for Kindle Ereaders

Depending on what version of the Kindle Oasis or Kindle Paperwhite you get, will decide how much space you have. Both versions are available in 8GB or 32GB. Depending on the person and your needs will determine how much space you need. Of course, the 32GB version is a higher price, so that is something to keep in mind.

Both the Amazon Kindle Oasis and the Paperwhite offer a Wi-Fi or a Wi-Fi and Cellular option. If you are often not connected to Wi-Fi, it might make sense to go with a Kindle that has cellular service. That way, you know that you can connect to the internet no matter where you are. Both the Oasis and Paperwhite offer Bluetooth capability too. Connect those Bluetooth headphones with no problem to either device.

If reading on the beach or near the pool is your jam, you’ll be happy to know that the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Oasis have an IXP8 rating for water resistance. Don’t dunk your Kindle underwater, but splashes are totally fine and won’t break the device.

There is a difference in the look of the Kindle Oasis vs. the Kindle Paperwhite. The Oasis is a bit fancier with color options of graphite or champagne gold. The Paperwhite has a more simplistic look with twilight blue, sage, plum, and black colors.

Charge time for the Oasis is a bit faster than the Paperwhite. The Oasis has a full charge after only about two hours with a computer USB port. In comparison, the Paperwhite takes three to four hours to achieve a full charge.

Kindle Oasis Price vs. Kindle Paperwhite

We saved the price difference for last because this is one of the most significant variations between the two devices. The Kindle Oasis is priced at about $250 on average, while the Kindle Paperwhite is about $130. That’s a significant price difference, with the Paperwhite almost half the price of the Oasis. That said, is the Kindle Oasis worth it?

That will depend on your budget and what features are essential to you. If a larger screen and blue light filter are necessary for you, the Oasis fits the bill. However, there are not many other features that differ between the two devices. If you are on a budget, the Kindle Paperwhite is a better option that gives you the same functionality.

We recommend finding an e-reader that fits your budget. Either one of these devices is an excellent addition to having you on your way to being an entire Kindle family.
